Tempelhofer Feld
Those who have too much of the city should venture a trip to Tempelhofer Feld in Berlin Tempelhof, the largest inner-city park. Since the opening of the former airport site in May 2010, the 300-hectare field has been intensively used as a recreational area for leisure activities.
Tempelhofer Feld, officially Tempelhofer Freiheit, is Berlin’s largest inner-city park. The site of Berlin-Tempelhof Airport, which was closed in 2008, has been open to the public since May 2010. The 300-hectare area serves as a local recreation area and is intensively used for leisure activities such as cycling, skating, jogging, kite flying or barbecue. In addition to the many activities, you can relax in the sunbeds and enjoy the sunset or simply order a beer in the beer garden. For four-legged friends there are three dog run-out areas.
The airport building west of the field is a listed venue for trade fairs, events and major music shows. If you want to know more about the history of Tempelhofer Feld, you can book different guided tours. In addition, the visitor encounters information paths with 20 memorial sites throughout the area.
The area is accessible via the entrances Columbiadamm, Tempelhofer Damm and Oderstraße from morning to evening.
JUMPBerlins opinion:
There is nothing more unique than a walk over Tempelhofer Feld on a sunny day. The former airport is a wonderful place for well-being and relaxation as well as for day-long exercise.
