Großer Tiergarten
The large green area in the centre of Berlin, encompassed between Potsdamer Platz, Regierungsviertel, Bahnhof Zoo and Brandenburger Tor, is the Great Zoological Garden (germ.: Grosse Tiergarten). Originally, it was supposed to be the hunting territory for the elected princes of Brandenburg, but has since developed into a beautiful untouched green terrain in the middle of the city. Surpassed only by the Tempelhofer Feld, it is the ideal space for Berlin residents to do recreational activities and feel some of the nature only the countryside can offer.
Parts of that space are botanical oases with rose beds, the Island of Luise and the English garden.
JUMP Berlin says:
The Tiergarten definitely balances out the nature and city harmony within Berlin. We recommend you to explore it by bike, since the size is hard to cover on foot with a limited amount of time. It provides the perfect environment for people going jogging or taking a stroll. We find the park to be most beautiful in winter.
