Hackesche Höfe
Not far north of Alexanderplatz are the Hackesche Höfe, which have been listed as a historical monument since 1977. They can be reached directly via Rosenthaler Straße and contain one of Berlin’s largest cultural offerings.
Germany’s largest enclosed courtyard area is made up of eight courtyards, the benefits of which consisted of a mixture of trade, culture and art, floor factories and apartments. They were planned by the architect Kurt Berndt, who designed the façade in a very attractive Art Nouveau style.
Since the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Hackesche Höfe has been one of the most important sightseeing attractions, with shops, studios of Berlin fashion designers, cafés, a cinema and a variety showroom.
JUMPBerlin’s opinion:
Whether young or old, there is something for everyone. Shopping, eating or just relaxing in the flair of the old Berlin – all is possible here.
