City center of the East Berlin

Kastanienallee towards Eberswalder Straße

The Kastanienallee in Prenzlauer Berg is often referred to as Berlin’s trendy mile. Over the years, it has established itself as a hotspot for hip Berliners and internationalers and is regarded as the centre of the Berlin design and fashion scene. It runs from the Eberswalder Straße underground station to Fehrbelliner Straße.

Located in the former East Berlin, the area remained largely unnoticed in GDR times. The dilapidated houses served as cheap housing options and attracted artists and lateral thinkers.

After the reunification, houses were occupied and new cultural sites were built. A hype spread out around the avenue of chestnut trees, and here its just turned into a kind of lifestyle.

Creativity, culture, life

This creative, unconformal esprit has been preserved in the chestnut avenue until today. Unlike the Kurfürstendamm or Unter den Linden, the popular boulevard has a very rough appearance and radiates authenticity instead of high gloss. Young designers offer their collections here, second-hand shops compete with second-hand shops with the big brands in Berlin Mitte and artists realize themselves in temporary projects.

In addition to the many creative creators, a remarkable gastronomic scene has also developed, which does not have to hide behind innovative, modern restaurant concepts. Gastronomers from all over the world come here to enrich Berlin’s food scene with their ideas, making it a real El Dorado for all passionate eaters.

All in all, this is the perfect place to discover new trends, enjoy delicious food and put your finger on Berlin’s creative pulse.
